The Red Carpet
This is the 89th annual Academy Awards this year. The ceremony on the red carpet alone costs about $30,000. The Academy Award’s red carpet is about 274 meters long and about 10 meters wide. The red carpet begins on Hollywood boulevard and highland avenue, where celebrities arrive in luxurious cars, and will go on all the way to the entrance of the Dolby Theatre. 18 technicists will begin to lay the red carpet along Hollywood boulevard starting on the 21st of February of each year which will then take around 900 hours to complete.

The red carpet of the Academy of Arts was first held in 1961. Afterwards, it became a indispensable tradition during the Academy Awards ceremony. LA Times reported that a scholar of history Marc Wanamaker said, the red carpet has a variety of functions.
First, it is works as a directing route for the awards’s attendees. Second, it’s also a stage which fans support their idols, and news media and journalists record and report. Finally, it serves as the ultimate runway for celebrities to show off.
The Blue Ribbon
Today, many celebrities are seen wearing a blue ribbon with the organization's name on the chest. Wearing this ribbon shows celebrities’ support of American Civil Liberties Union. As celebrities walk the Oscars red carpet, the official ACLU Twitter page shares photos of the celebrities wearing the ribbons and even cracking jokes. "Whoever thought we'd be fashion icons?" the organization wrote.
